Overview of Cannes Shops & Other Activities
Cannes is just beyond Antibes on the train so easy to get to from Villefranche. The train station is right in town, just 3 short blocks from the waterfront. The town of Cannes is a large town, or small city, but very easy to get around. There is a small Old Town that has some known restaurants but most of the city is along the waterfront, known as the Croissette. This is where the Palais is, where the world-famous Cannes film festival happens every year.
Shopping is a fun thing to do in Cannes. There are a number of haute-couture (luxury) shops but many other shops that are much more reasonable. If you want a good shopping day, in a smaller venue than Nice, along with a nice lunch, Cannes is a fun place to explore.
You can also visit the Lerin Islands from Cannes. There are two islands: Ste. Marguerite and St. Honorat. We prefer St. Honorat but Ste. Marguerite is also wonderful. St. Honorat has an old monastery that looks like a medieval castle, right on the water’s edge, which is wonderful to explore. St. Honorat is still a working monastery with approximately 35 monks living there. Their wine, which they make on the island, is well known and sought after in the area. It is a 10-15 minute boat ride from the Port of Cannes to the islands.
Markets
There is a wonderful covered market in Cannes that is fun to explore. Plus lots of great shopping and fun to walk along the Croisette. A very nice day outing and easy access by train.
